U-15 Russell Cup Football Game

On Friday, the St. Brendan’s team took on ISK Killorglin in Dr Croke’s pitch. The team was looking for another victory following their win over Rathmore last week.

The team got off to a quick start, racking up 1-7 before ISK put a score of their own on the board. Early goals from Darragh Donoghue and Paul o’Shea were the highlights of a rather one-sided first half that ended 2-9 to 0-3.

With a wide margin in place at half-time, fresh legs were brought on in an attempt to extend the lead. After the match had resumed, it seemed as though St. Brendan’s would pick up where they left off, with three quick points giving the Sem a resounding lead.

ISK did not lie down however, and quickly restored some dignity with three second half goals, including a penalty, and consistent scoring throughout the second period.

The boys in green and gold maintained a lead throughout, and despite some defensive frailties, managed to record a seven point victory over ISK Killorglin (3-19 to 3-11). A standout performance from the midfield pairing of Darragh Lyne and Paul O’Shea allowed the team to control the game. The margin perhaps should have been more, but it is not for a lack of passion and heart from the whole team, who will hopefully push forward in preparation for big games against CBS and Dingle.
