The Gaisce Walk

IMG_1783Transition Year student, Donnchadh O’Sullivan recounts his experience of two days on the Kerry Way as part of the outdoor adventure element of the Gaisce Walk.

On the 9th October 30 of us began walking from Lough Acoose. During the first day our trek took us over two mountains. After three hours we took a break and had lunch. The track followed an ancient butter road, with a few very wet patches! We then got to a road and walked along the Black Valley for about 5 kms. There was a sigh of relief when the hostel was in sight. When we got to the hostel we showered, prepared and ate our dinner. We then relaxed and got a good night sleep (well some of us!) as most of us were very tired.

The next morning we woke up around eight and had breakfast. We left the hostel around 10 and we were on our way. We walked on the mass IMG_1786path to Derrycunnihy and then along a section of the old Kenmare road to Torc and had to go around that to get to the car park where we were meeting the bus. Everyone was delighted to see the bus because at this stage we were all wrecked. We got the bus back to the school and got there at 2:45.
