St. Brendan’s U15 Soccer

St. Brendan’s 6   -v-     Desmond College 0

Report by Soccer Journalist Keith O Leary (2nd Year)

In this very one sided game the Sem started the better of the two sides and were up 1-0 early on through a Dylan Murphy strike from 10 yards. The Sem had more chances and went close through Mark Fennell. The Sem then went two up after Michael Devlin finished well. It was 3 soon after when Michael Lenihan sent a bullet header into the back of the net following a Devlin corner. It could have been four after Mark Fennell rounded the Desmond College goalkeeper only to see his shot cleared off the line. But just before halftime it was four when a Darragh Lyne free kick only saw the goalkeeper parry the ball into the path of the oncoming Devlin who slid it past the goalkeeper. After the break Ryan Kelliher replaced Dylan Murphy and almost scored immediately after the restart but the Desmond College goalkeeper saved well. Soon after it was 5-0 when Devlin completed his hat-trick after a great pass by Dara Fleming. The Sem continued to put pressure on the Desmond goal and went close through Reece Hegarty. Desmond College had little chances on the Sem goal but on a rare attack St. Brendan’s defence stayed firm and when Desmond’s did have a shot on goal Mark Kelliher saved well. Late in the game it was 6-0 when Devlin got his fourth after good play by the Sem. Eoin Moynihan went close in the final minutes but saw his shot clip the top of the crossbar after a thirty yard strike. The substitutes used were Ryan Kelliher, Gary Cronin, Conor O Leary, Eoin Moynihan, Reece Hegarty, Lee Downing and Keith O Leary (GK). All involved played well, but work is needed in order for the squad to gel. St. Brendan’s now progress to the next round of the competition away to Tarbert C.S.

The coaches were Trevor Nagle and Joseph Hurley
