Poetry reaches out to the Sem

On 20th October St Brendan’s sallied forth into the world of poetry. The school was ably represented in the Poetry Aloud competition by Armandas Bendaravicius of 2nd year and Sean Cronin and Jonathan O’ Keefe of 1st year.

The Poetry Aloud competion is an annual one, run by Poetry Ireland. It consists of a series of regional competitions followed by the semis and the finals, held in the beautiful National Library in Dublin. Students compete against other hopefuls from all over the country in pursuit of poetry and glory- and a cash prize!

The regional competition for Kerry was held in St Brigid’s Presentation Convent Killarney and the number of competitiors was dramatically higher than usual. The long hours of practise paid off as Armandas, Jonathan and Sean all impressed with their powerful recitations. The poems really came to life and all three students earned great praises for their school.

I would like to thank our Poetry Aloud competitors for their hard work and dedication and the organisers of the regionals for making it such a memorable experience. Roll on next year!!
