Ploughing Championships

On Thursday 25th our TY group travelled to Ratheniska, Stradbally Co. Laois for the final day in the National Ploughing Championships. ploughing 4The bus journey took three and a half hours, which we spent sleeping or singing. On our arrival we were deposited on the edge of the event and were left to freely roam the grounds. Each of us explored the various stalls that were present, such as car companies’ brand new models, or presentations of the Belgian Blue bulls which to say the least were massive. Some of the other attractions included farm equipment, tree cutting competition and various food stands. However the main attraction was the ploughing itself. The great traditional skill that was displayed was truly amazing, especially Derek O’Driscoll’s victory in the Junior Conventional Class.

On the way home we visited Barack Obama Plazato grab a meal before heading back home. All in all it was a great day out for our TY group which left us with many fond experiences and memories.ploughing 2
