Leaving Certificate Results 2011

Expressing delight at the Leaving Certificate results for the class of 2011, Principal Ed O’Neill stated that the results were the best he had witnessed in the school in his ten years as principal. The number above 500 points was 11%- well above the national average (8%) thereby giving St. Brendan’s students right of access to the top university courses. In students such as David Lucey, Luke Bartlett, Shane McCarthy, Gary Daly and Jamie O’Doherty the college has young men of the highest academic tier nationally. Mr O’Neill was particularly delighted with the results in mathematics. Here the college underscored the national average (13% failure rate) with every Leaving Certificate student achieving at least a pass grade. In a time when the international focus is on our capacity in Maths and the Sciences, I am delighted to see our students achieving at the highest level. In Chemistry our students scored 7% above the national average, in Physics our students outscored the national average by a massive 19% while in Music and Applied Maths 100% of our students who sat these subjects achieved an honours grade. In the 400 + points bracket St. Brendan’s boys again out-performed the national average.

Mr. O’Neill paid tribute to the dedicated work of the staff of the college in providing the quality teaching and learning which facilitated these achievements. “The staff of St. Brendan’s continues to offer committed, innovative support to its students” he said.

With the CAO offers due on Monday 22nd the support staff in St Brendan’s will be available on that day to offer guidance to students unsure of their next step

“Of course education is about much more than just achieving academically, we pride ourselves in producing balanced young people, nevertheless academic achievement is an important tenet of that growth. The school is very happy with the achievements of all its students on this important day for them and their families” he concluded.
