Leaving Cert Results 2012

Leaving Certificate Results 2012

This year’s much anticipated Leaving Certificate results were a testament to the efforts of our students and their teachers. These results are also a consequence of the time and sacrifice dedicated by their parents in supporting their Leaving Certificate students.

Expressing great satisfaction with the performance of the cohort, Principal Sean Coffey emphasised that this class group really matured into the task during the year, and this morning received results which surpassed their expectations. With 19% of the students over 500 points, these results are an excellent springboard for our students. With 93% of our Higher Maths students achieving an A, B or C grade the college is well above the national average in this key subject. This trend continues across Physics, German, Music, Irish, and Accounting and a range of other subjects. The success of the Leaving Certificate Applied students gives these class group opportunities in their chosen post-Leaving Courses.

Guidance Counsellor Karen Rice was particularly delighted for the Repeat class. These students returning to achieve their third level target put in genuine effort to increase their points score by a 90 point average. In students such as Gearoid O’Sullivan, Tadhg Moore, Shane Gill, Ciara Breen, Conor Slattery, Conor O’Leary and Darragh Kelliher the College once more sends forth students to courses at the top tier of third level education.

In meeting the students this morning to hand out the results, both principal Sean Coffey and deputy principal Jim O’Brien were reminded of the qualities of integrity and maturity so evident in this group. Their graduation from second level now complete, they leave positive memories in their wake, and certainly added to the proud tradition of St Brendan’s. Jim O Brien noted that it was heartening to see the satisfaction on the faces of our students who achieved their goals following a year of endeavour. “Setting forth young people ready to meet the challenges of life remains our core business, nevertheless, equipping them with a solid academic education is critical”

The St. Brendan’s College Parents’ Association Chairperson Anne Byrnes congratulated all the Leaving Certificate students and wished them all the best with the course offers in the coming days. She also reminded students of the National Parents’ Council Helpline 1800 265 165, reminding all that professional help and guidance is available should a student have a concern about his/her result

The next milestone on the road to a future college place is Monday, August 20th when the CAO offers will be on-line from 6.00a.m. Students will also receive the offers through the post on Monday. Guidance staff will be available in the College on next week to assist with student queries in relation to their career and course options
