St Brendans College Killarney

St Brendan’s College has a thriving Athletics Club within the school. The club competes is all college Athletics events throughout the school year. These include multi-event competitions, Cross Country events, indoor events and track and field. Ms Bowler, Ms Hallisey and Mr Fitzgerald coach the athletes during the year.

Our Athletics Club train regularly throughout the year.  Our Tuesday evening sessions focus on throwing, jumping, sprinting and middle-distance events and Friday mornings sessions focus on endurance events such as cross country and middle distance. During April and May, an extra training session is added to the training schedule with a focus on relay team preparation. The athletics club has been successful over the last number of years winning county provincial and national medals in multi events, indoor, cross country and track and field.

The increasing success of relay teams demonstrates the popularity and the high level of performance amongst the student community of St Brendan’s College.  There is an excellent school/club link between St Brendan’s College and Killarney Valley Athletics club. This has given some of our extremely high-performing athletes an opportunity the partake in athletics throughout the year.

All students are welcome to train and partake with our school athletics club. The 200-metre tartan track within our school grounds allows students to try all athletic events in a state-of-the-art facility.
