Catholic Schools Week

As part of our celebration of Catholic School’s Week, the first years at St. Brendan’s invited in their grandparents to a morning of celebration.

R.E. teacher Ms. Karon McLysaght stressed the value of the life experiences and guidance grandparents can offer. Our celebration was intended to act as a thank you for the time and energy grandparents put into the lives of their grandchildren. Beginning with the  planting of a Red Berry Spindle, chosen by our gardener Patricia Hodd,  to symbolise the strength, support  and continuity offered by our older relatives, students and invitees then gathered for a workshop with Mr. Paul Barden in making St. Brigid’s crosses.

Again, the powerful cross-generational sharing was a wonderful experience for all involved. The crosses are bought by the students and all monies go to Sightsavers International.

Finally the first years and their grandparents joined together in the school chapel under the guidance of Fr. Kevin for a prayer service which capped the morning beautifully
