Athletics – 5K Run

Students and staff at St. Brendan’s College were this week celebrating the completion of the Feet First 5k challenge by over 30 students and staff.  “The Saturday morning fortnightly runs in the Killarney National Park gave our students a focus upon which to target their energies” said school Principal Sean Coffey. As a bonus two of our boys, David Kenny, a very talented first year and Risteard Clifford from Transition Year finished first and second respectively.  But according to coach Arthur Fitzgerald the real victory lay in the team spirit and commitment of the boys involved, the improvements in everyone’s times across the series and also the students enthusiasm for the post Christmas series.  “St. Brendan’s has a proud tradition in Athletics. These lads are a continuation of that tradition. Indeed organiser Catriona Kelly was rich in her praise of all who participated in this stress -reducing, low-cost pastime. “Giving students an opportunity to participate in events such as these has the added advantage of opening the National Park, a most wonderful amenity,  to a new generation of young people” commented Mr. Coffey. The students look forward to the next series, beginning in January
