Study Facilities

The school provides facilities for study each day between 4.00 pm and 5. 50pm and between 6.00pm and 9.00pm

Teachers supervise these periods and there is a fee per term.

The school believes that study is an exercise in self-discipline, which must be developed.   It involves both written and oral work.   It is essential that the students develop the habit of study.   The actual time to be spent on homework and study should be about an hour and a half for first year and increasing for each year up to three hours and more for senior students.

studyFirst Year Smart Study Sessions
4.00-5.30 p.m.

St. Brendan’s College Smart Study Sessions caters specifically for first year students.  In setting up the Smart Study Sessions our aim is to create a supportive environment where there is a specific focus on homework completion, numeracy and literacy support and study skills.   The philosophy of our club will follow a student-centred approach to learning.

The Sessions run Monday to Friday from 4.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. and will be facilitated by a teacher. Every student at the Smart Study Sessions is encouraged and supported to work to the best of his ability and assisted with any questions he may have in relation to homework.  The student-centred group approach will encourage peer support as well as teacher facilitation.

We believe that this programme is hugely beneficial for our students.  The Sessions  instil in students a sense of discipline, routine and commitment to study.  It increases their level of self-awareness regarding their own potential, personality and learning style and how these factors assist their own educational success. Levels of success are different for each student but it is important that all students feel a sense of purpose, pride and achievement in their work.
