New Student Induction

inductionThe Staff, Parents’ Association and Student  Council at St Brendan’s, mindful of the considerable change involved in the movement from primary to secondary have together  devised a programme of gradual introduction to life in the college.

Following the Open Night and a decision to enrol, all students in the catchment are invited to a social event in the college, thereby beginning the student familiarity with the building and the rhythms of the college.

Following the February Assessment, students are invited to two further three hour activity sessions in the College.  Managed by Parents, teachers and students the layout of the school, reading a timetable, taster elements of subjects, practical information about life in the college, lunch time activities, uniform, behaviour and subject expectations and the extracurricular elements of school life are explored.

Students also work on their hopes and anxieties about the transfer. Supports such as the Base Group, Peer Mentoring and Pastoral Care systems are also discussed in workshop format.
